WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. — The Downriver Community Conference today announced its support of the Wayne County Public Transportation Millage that will appear on the Tuesday, Aug. 4, ballot.
The Downriver Community Conference partnership provides leadership in establishing common, positive goals and strategies to develop the human, social and economic assets of the Downriver area.
“Reliable public transportation is essential to the continued growth and success of Downriver communities,” said Jim Perry, executive director of the Downriver Community Conference. “Whether it is helping residents get to work, school, medical appointments or other essential destinations, public transit strengthens our local economy and improves quality of life. The Wayne County Public Transportation Millage represents an investment in the mobility of our residents and the long-term vitality of our communities, and we are proud to support it.”
The Wayne County Public Transportation Millage would renew and expand public transit across the entire county if passed, providing more affordable transportation options for about 350,000 Wayne County residents who have little to no options to get around if they can’t drive. This millage would also expand DDOT bus service, connecting Detroit residents to more jobs and schools in the suburbs.
