As the cost of living continues to rise, seniors, young people and struggling families continue to grapple with the lack of affordable transit options to move between work, school, grocery stores, day care and doctor office visits. From what we see in our work every day helping families move from crisis to stability and from stability to prosperity, we know that reliable transportation is not a luxury: It is a necessary ingredient for thriving families and strong communities.
A world-class region requires a world-class transit system. Expanding transit for all will build a stronger southeast Michigan for residents, employers and visitors across our great state.
The Detroit Regional Chamber fully supports the Wayne County transit initiative. We believe that a prosperous region relies on providing our citizens the ability to move from point A to point B to make money and spend money. What Executive Evans is pressing for does exactly that. The Chamber is proud to support this effort and we encourage citizens and businesses alike to join Executive Evans in this important effort.
Public transit is a life-or-death matter for many people with disabilities who cannot get to work or go to the grocery store without accessible and affordable public transportation. I strongly support the Wayne County public transit millage because transit allows thousands of people with disabilities to work, be productive and live meaningful and independent lives instead of being trapped in their homes due to the lack of transportation options.
With rising inflation and higher gas prices, renewing and expanding public transit in Wayne County will provide more affordable transportation options for hundreds of thousands of residents who have little to no way to get around if they can’t drive. The Wayne County public transit millage will renew and expand transportation options so young people, seniors and people with disabilities have reliable transportation options to get where there need to go, whether that is their job, the grocery store or a doctor’s appointment.
As the President and CEO of an organization that is dedicated to strengthening the educational, economic and social well-being of families across Southeast Michigan, I am deeply committed to building strong and connected communities through robust, reliable and affordable public transportation. LAHC-Leaders Advancing and Helping Communities works every day with Wayne County residents who depend on accessible transit to get to their jobs, see a doctor, go to school and access essential services. I wholeheartedly support the Wayne County Public Transportation Millage on the Tuesday, Aug. 4, ballot because investing in public transit is an investment in economic opportunity, access and the long-term success of our region,
The passage of the Wayne County Public Transportation Millage would improve mobility for residents – especially seniors and people with disabilities – which, in turn, supports economic growth, access to jobs and community engagement across the region. I am proud to support the Wayne County Public Transportation Millage on the Tuesday, Aug. 4, ballot because dependable public transportation connects people to opportunities, eases traffic congestion and helps create healthier, safer and more vibrant communities,
Public transit connects employees with employers, customers with businesses and job seekers with new opportunities. I strongly support the Wayne County Public Transportation Millage on the Tuesday, Aug. 4, ballot because expanding transit options will help more residents access employment, training and economic opportunity across the region, while also supporting local businesses and attracting new families to our communities. Without comprehensive, connected public transit, some residents cannot connect with or sustain employment,
Based on our agency's Community Needs Assessment, U-M's Transportation and Security Index, and our understanding of the constituents we serve, too many seniors and people living with disabilities have not been able to meet their public transportation needs. With the proposed enhancements of the millage, they will better fulfill their needs, expand their independence, improve their overall quality of life, and maintain more connections throughout the entire county.
Wayne County has 350,000 residents who don’t or can’t drive, including seniors, people with disabilities and workers who don’t own a car. Improved bus service would help workers maintain employment, access healthcare and move around the community more easily. We support the Wayne County Public Transportation Millage on the Tuesday, Aug. 4, ballot because improved transportation would connect more workers to job sites, especially in the suburbs, that for too long have been without reliable access to transportation.
The City of Romulus is appropriately called the Home of Opportunity because we believe everyone deserves to live, work and play in a community that is safe, collaborative and positioned for success. As the Mayor of Romulus, I am committed to improving accessibility which includes providing reliable and affordable public transportation, especially for seniors, people with disabilities and low-income households. With the recent increased growth and additional opportunities for jobs in the City of Romulus, we have received numerous requests from employers, as well as employees, to make reliable public transportation readily available. For our community to be able to continue to grow and prosper, we need reliable public transportation for all our residents! These are just a few of the reasons I am supporting the Wayne County Public Transportation Millage on the Tuesday, Aug. 4, ballot because expanding service ensures Romulus residents who cannot drive have a way to access essential services and jobs.
