Vote YES on the
Wayne County Public Transportation Millage

Public transit is an important lifeline for seniors and people with disabilities who cannot easily drive on their own.

Tuesday, Aug. 4, is a critical moment for Wayne County residents, seniors and people with disabilities.

Public transit is a life-or-death matter for many people with disabilities who cannot get to work or go to the grocery store without accessible and affordable public transportation.

The Wayne County Public Transportation Millage, which will appear on the Tuesday, Aug. 4, ballot, will renew and expand public transit for about 350,000 Wayne County residents who have little to no options to get around if they can’t drive. This millage will expand DDOT bus service, connecting Detroit residents to more jobs and schools in the suburbs.

Public transit is a key part of independence for seniors and people with disabilities, allowing seniors to age at home and live longer, healthier lives.

If renewing and expanding transit across Wayne County does not pass, communities with existing SMART service will lose those services (with the exception of DDOT or other local services), meaning families, seniors and people with disabilities in southeast Michigan will lose access to much-needed public transportation.

That’s why we urge you to VOTE YES on the Wayne County Public Transportation Millage on Tuesday, Aug. 4.

Supporting Our Economy

Building a Stronger Southeast Michigan

Public transit connects employers with employees, businesses with customers and doctors with patients

Renewing and expanding public transit in Wayne County would strengthen our economy, help small businesses, raise property values and attract young people and new families to our community.

Low-Cost Millage

Protecting Taxpayers

The Wayne County Public Transportation Millage contains strong fiscal responsibility and transparency measures to help ensure taxpayer dollars are spent wisely. All funding from this low-cost millage is subject to independent audits, encouraging transparency and fiscal responsibility.

For a homeowner who has a home worth $200,000, the average cost of this millage is $8 per month. If you live in a suburban community that already has SMART bus service, this is a RENEWAL and you WILL NOT see an increase in your tax rate.

“As the cost of living continues to rise, seniors, young people and struggling families continue to grapple with the lack of affordable transit options to move between work, school, grocery stores, daycare and doctor office visits. From what we see in our work every day helping families move from crisis to stability and from stability to prosperity, we know that reliable transportation is not a luxury: It is a necessary ingredient for thriving families and strong communities.”

“The Detroit Regional Chamber fully supports the Wayne County transit initiative. We believe that a prosperous region relies on providing our citizens the ability to move from point A to point B to make money and spend money. What Executive Evans is pressing for does exactly that. The Chamber is proud to support this effort and we encourage citizens and businesses alike to join Executive Evans in this important effort.”

Sandy Baruah, President and CEO of the Detroit Regional Chamber

“Public transit is a life-or-death matter for many people with disabilities who cannot get to work or go to the grocery store without accessible and affordable public transportation. I strongly support the Wayne County public transit millage because transit allows thousands of people with disabilities to work, be productive and live meaningful and independent lives instead of being trapped in their homes due to the lack of transportation options.”
