WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. — The Detroit City Council announced its support of the Wayne County Public Transportation Millage that will appear on the Tuesday, Aug. 4, ballot:
“Public transportation is more than a convenience – it’s a lifeline for many Detroit residents,” said Hon. James Tate, District #1, Council President. “Strong transit systems create stronger communities by connecting people to jobs, education, health care and opportunity. The Detroit City Council’s support for the Wayne County Transit for All initiative reflects our commitment to ensuring every resident has access to reliable transportation that helps move Detroit and all of Wayne County forward.”
“Public transit is absolutely vital for economic development in the city, region and state,” said Hon. Coleman A. Young II, Council President ProTempore At-Large. “For ALL OF US to thrive as a region we must include ALL OF US with transportation inequity. Vote for the Wayne County Transit Millage now! Please make sure to VOTE ON TUESDAY, AUG. 4.”
“When our people can get to work and back home, Wayne County is working for all of us,” said Hon. Mary Waters, Council Member At-Large. “That is why I support the Wayne County millage.”
The Wayne County Public Transportation Millage would renew and expand public transit across the entire county if passed, providing more affordable transportation options for about 350,000 Wayne County residents who have little to no options to get around if they can’t drive. This millage would also expand DDOT bus service, connecting Detroit residents to more jobs and schools in the suburbs.
