WAYNE COUNTY, Mich. — The Senior Alliance, Area Agency on Aging 1C, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of older adults, individuals with disabilities and their caregivers, today announced its official endorsement of the Wayne County Public Transportation Millage that will appear on the Tuesday, Aug. 4, ballot.
“For many older adults, transportation is the key to maintaining their independence, accessing healthcare and staying connected to their communities,” said Jason Maciejewski, CEO of The Senior Alliance. “Transportation is consistently one of the top services older adults request because too many of them face barriers getting to where they need to go. With nearly one in four residents in our service area age 60 or older, preserving and expanding reliable public transit, including door-to-door service, is an investment in the health, independence and quality of life of Wayne County’s older adults.”
The Wayne County Public Transportation Millage would renew and expand public transit across the entire county if passed, providing more affordable transportation options for about 350,000 Wayne County residents who have few to no options to get around if they can’t drive. This millage would also expand DDOT bus service, connecting Detroit residents to more jobs and
schools in the suburbs.
